Location and extent
The ED-R Peenemünde is defined as a polygonal area with several coordinate points and is located in the Peenemünde area on the Baltic Sea coast. The area extends laterally over a large coastal and marine area. Vertically, the flight restriction extends from the ground to 5,000 feet MSL.
Temporal validity
The flight restriction applies from 8 January 2026 to 31 December 2028 and the area is active daily from 07:00 to 17:00 UTC. The actual utilisation will be announced in advance by NOTAM, so that it may be possible to use the airspace outside the published activation times.
Type of restrictions
All flights are prohibited within the Peenemünde ED-R. This applies to manned aircraft as well as model aircraft and unmanned aerial systems. The only exceptions are aircraft that are directly involved in the research project.
Exceptions and authorisations
After prior authorisation by the responsible air traffic control authority, state aircraft, emergency flights of the armed forces, police flights, rescue and disaster control missions and ambulance flights are permitted. Transit requests can be made via radiotelephony. Transit authorisations in accordance with § 17 LuftVO are expressly not granted.
Notes for the practice
Violations of the flight restrictions will be prosecuted. Due to the long duration until the end of 2028 and the daily activation periods, the ED-R Peenemünde must be permanently taken into account in flight preparation, chart material and electronic flight planning systems. VFR flights in coastal areas and at low altitudes in particular require careful examination of the current NOTAMs.
