NFL 2024-1-3296 - New regulations for aerodrome traffic at Frankfurt-Egelsbach airfield (VFR) from 2025

Last updated on 23 December 2024
The Darmstadt Regional Council has revised the regulations for aerodrome traffic at Frankfurt-Egelsbach airfield (VFR). The new regulations come into force on 1 January 2025 and replace the previous regulations according to the "Nachrichten für Luftfahrer" (NfL 2023-1-2745). Here is an overview of the most important changes

1. general provisions

  • Operation according to visual flight rules (VFR): Aerodrome traffic is handled in accordance with the visual flight chart and in compliance with the visual weather conditions (SERA.5001, DVO (EU) No. 923/2012).
  • Radio contact: Approaching aircraft must contact "Egelsbach Information" at least 10 minutes before reaching the aerodrome.
  • Transponder and radio zones (TMZ/RMZ): The regulations of the Transponder Mandatory Zone (TMZ) and Radio Mandatory Zone (RMZ) must be strictly observed.
  • Helicopter operation at night: As the Heli-Pad does not have a night marking, helicopters may only take off and land on the tarmac runway (ASPH-RWY) outside of civil twilight.
  • Visibility requirements for night approaches: Aircraft in speed categories B & C and turbine-powered aircraft may only operate at night with a ground visibility of at least 5 km.
  • Overflight bans: Overflights of localities such as Bayerseich, Egelsbach, Erzhausen, Langen and Wixhausen are prohibited if avoidable.

2. course laps

  • Height and position: Course rounds are performed at a height of 1300 ft MSL flown. The A5 motorway forms the western boundary.
  • North course round: Runs between Langen and Egelsbach. In the east, it runs alongside the A661 motorway.
  • South course circuit: Between Erzhausen and Wixhausen, with a turning point into the final approach runway 26.
  • Practice and training flights: In principle, to be carried out in the north aerodrome circuit; exceptions require the authorisation of the air traffic control.
  • Recommendations: Due to high-voltage power lines, a late descent in the cross approach is recommended.

3. arrival and departure regulations

  • Approaches for category B & C and turbine aircraft:
    • Operating direction 08: Via the DELTA approach along the A5 motorway into the right lateral approach.
    • Operating direction 26: Directly over the YANKEE approach into the final approach.
  • Approaches for other aircraft:
    • Operating direction 08: Via DELTA or TANGO into the aerodrome.
    • Operating direction 26: Via ECHO or KILO to the corresponding course round sections.
  • Departures for category B & C and turbine aircraft:
    • Operating direction 08: Via runway 08 in the direction of YANKEE.
    • Operating direction 26: Straight ahead to the A5 motorway, then south to the DELTA excursion.
  • Departures for other aircraft:
    • Operating direction 08: Via KILO or ECHO.
    • Operating direction 26: Via TANGO or DELTA.

4. special regulations

  • Online briefing: Pilots of turbine aircraft and category B & C are required to complete an online briefing and carry a certificate. Approaches and departures are not permitted without a valid certificate.
  • Safety measures: The final approach should be made at a recommended angle of 4.4° (APAPI display). High-voltage power lines and sloping terrain require special attention.

5. administrative offences and criminal offences

Violations of these regulations can be punished as administrative offences in accordance with Section 58 LuftVG and Section 23 LuftVO. Serious offences can be prosecuted in accordance with Section 59 LuftVG.

Conclusion and effects

These new regulations will further regulate airfield traffic at Frankfurt-Egelsbach Airport in order to meet the requirements of aviation safety and environmental protection.
