GAMA Report 2024: New aircraft market grows by 14 per cent - Cirrus SR22T again tops the list

The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) has published its annual report for 2024 - with consistently positive news for general aviation. The global market for new fixed-wing aircraft has grown by 14.3 per cent compared to 2023. The business jet and piston engine aircraft sector is particularly strong, while turboprops are showing a slight decline.

Record figures: 26.7 billion US dollars in sales of new aircraft

According to GAMA, the Deliveries of new fixed-wing aircraft a total value of 26.7 billion US dollars. This continues the positive trend from previous years. In particular, the demand for modern Piston engine aircraft and business jets remains high. The distribution of Aircraft deliveries by segment shows a mixed picture:

  • Piston engine aeroplanes: 1,722 units delivered (+4,2 %)
  • Business jets: 764 jets delivered (+4,7 %)
  • Turboprops: 626 aircraft delivered (-1,9 %)

Market leader: Cirrus SR22T remains the most delivered aircraft

Also Cirrus Aircraft dominates in 2024 the delivery figures in General Aviation. The SR22T remains with 364 units delivered the most popular aircraft in the world. Overall, Cirrus holds a leading position with its piston engine aeroplanes. Market share of 36 per cent.

The Top 3 best-selling aircraft in the piston engine segment:

  1. Cirrus SR22T - 364 units
  2. Piper PA-28 (Archer & Pilot 100i) - 182 units
  3. Cessna 172 Skyhawk - 164 units

Business jets: Gulfstream dominates, Vision Jet from Cirrus with strong growth

In the area Business jets asserts itself Gulfstream as market leader. If the models G500, G600, G650, G650ER and G700 added together, the result is 118 aircraft delivered.

Particularly noteworthy is the success of the Cirrus Vision Jet. With 101 units delivered Cirrus is only just behind Gulfstream and ahead of many other competitors.

Turboprops: Pilatus PC-12 and Dahers TBM 960 as market leaders

While the Turboprop division overall a slight decrease of 1.9 per cent individual models are in high demand:

  • Pilatus PC-12 - 96 units
  • Therefore TBM 960 - 56 units
  • Cessna Grand Caravan EX - 60 units
  • Piper M700 Fury - 46 units (first time on the market)

Special aircraft: Air Tractor with high demand

In addition to standard business jets and training aircraft, specialised aircraft also recorded stable sales figures:

  • Air Tractor (agricultural and fire-fighting aircraft) 202 units
  • Thrush Aircraft - 27 units
  • Extra (aerobatic aeroplanes) - 23 units
  • GB1 GameBird (aerobatic aeroplane) - 18 units
  • Diamond DA62 - 64 units

Europe remains the second largest market for new aircraft

The USA dominates with 79 per cent of piston-engined aeroplanes delivered continue to dominate the market. Europe retains 11.1 per cent market share the second largest region, while the rest of the world remains in single figures.

Outlook for the future: Challenges and opportunities

The GAMA emphasises that Regulatory factors like Customs duties, taxes, trade barriers and supply chains will be decisive for the future growth of the industry. The Sustainability is gaining in importance: Many manufacturers are working on more environmentally friendly fuels and the Electrification smaller aircraft.
