Air Expo 2025 in Zell am See: Comeback of a traditional trade fair - with new perspectives for general aviation

After a six-year break, one of the best-known general aviation industry events in the German-speaking world is returning: Air Expo Zell am See will take place on the weekend of 13-14 September 2025 at the Austrian airfield in Zell am See (LOWZ) - for the eleventh time. As with previous events, admission is free of charge, which should attract both trade visitors and aviation enthusiasts from all over Europe.

A new start with a signalling effect

Over the years, Air Expo has established itself as an important Platform for manufacturers, service providers, associations and educational institutions established. The long break since the last event in 2019 was partly due to the pandemic. This makes the interest in celebrating the comeback with a modern, future-orientated concept to celebrate.

The focus is not only on classic topics such as aircraft technology, avionics and maintenance, but also on new trends in the areas of sustainable drives, digitalisation of aviation, training technologies and urban air mobility. The aim is to both Trade visitors as well as families interested in aviation, school groups and media representatives to address.

The final list of exhibitors is still being compiled, but some well-known participants have already been confirmed:

  • CD Aircraft/Cirrus - Supplier of complete aircraft and avionics solutions
  • Dachsel aircraft engine repair - Specialised repairer of piston engines
  • FH Joanneum - one of the leading Austrian universities of applied sciences with aeronautical engineering degree programmes
  • Garmin - Global market leader for avionics and aircraft instrumentation
  • JMB Aircraft - Manufacturer of the JMB VL-3, a fast UL/LSA
  • Aircraft technology Zell am See - Regionally anchored aviation company
  • Salzburg Air Sports Association - Association for sport and leisure pilots
  • Pioneer Aircraft - Known for sporty, Italian-designed piston aeroplanes
  • Piper Global Aviation / Piper Parts - Traditional brand from the USA with a strong commitment to Europe
  • Porsche - So far mainly active as a partner in hybrid drive concepts

The trade fair management announces that it will continuously update the list, including Start-ups, research projects and university initiatives to be integrated in a targeted manner.


An ideal destination for aviation enthusiasts - even from the air

The Zell am See airfield (LOWZ) is one of the most beautiful Alpine airfields in Europe. At 2470 feet altitude it offers a spectacular backdrop for such an event. The Asphalt track 07/25 measures 660 m LDA (Landing Distance Available) and 780 m TORA (Takeoff Run Available), with a maximum takeoff mass (MOTOW) of 5.7 tonnes. Fuels on site: Jet A-1, Avgas 100LL and Super Plus (98 RON).

Important: Zell am See is a pure VFR pitchi.e. Take-offs and landings are only permitted in visual flight conditions. IFR cloud piercing procedure are available and are used regularly. Austro Control provides the approach sheets for VFR and IFR free of charge. Visitors by aeroplane should arrive in good time Reserve slotsas the site is likely to be heavily frequented during the Air Expo.


Programme and highlights

The supporting programme is still being finalised, but the following items are already planned:

  • Specialist lectures and panels on topics such as "Electric Flying", "Avionics of the Future" and "Pilot Training 2030"
  • Aircraft inspections and presentations on the apron
  • Simulator stations for students and beginners
  • Counselling options for LAPL, PPL and ATPL training
  • Aviation Career Forum for students and young professionals
  • Flight offers for guests in ULs and motorised aircraft

Family friendliness is also a top priority - with Catering, children's activities and moderated demonstrations for all age groups.


Significance for the GA scene in Europe

The return of Air Expo Zell am See is not just a regional event. It is exemplary for the Renaissance of classic aviation eventswhich are once again gaining in importance following the pandemic and economic uncertainty.
