Aircraft: PA-19 Location: Oldenburg-Hatten

During the recovery and investigation, the fuel tap was found to be closed and only a small amount of fuel was found in the fuel bowl.

Shortly after take-off from the Oldenburg-Hatten airfield on 18 May 2023, the engine of a Piper PA-19 failed at an altitude of around 80 m, resulting in an emergency landing in a field. The aircraft was destroyed, the pilot slightly injured and the passenger seriously injured.

Before the flight, it was discovered that the fuel cock was closed, but should have been opened before take-off. The engine was started after several attempts and the primer was activated again. During the approach to a field, the aircraft lost altitude and crashed into the ground. During the recovery and investigation, the fuel cock was found to be closed and only a small amount of fuel was found in the fuel bowl. The accident resulted in personal injury and considerable damage to property.
