In preparation for a planned military exercise, the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport has announced temporary flight restrictions in the Bremen Flight Information Region (FIR). These restrictions affect a specific area and are to apply during the exercise from 12 to 18 September 2024. The aim of the measure is to ensure the safety and efficiency of the airspace during military activities.

Details of the flight restriction

Territorial expansion: The flight restriction zone, referred to as "ED-R Neuberend", covers a radius of one nautical mile (NM) around the reference point with the coordinates 54°33'46″N and 009°32'12″E.

Height limit: The vertical extent of the area extends from ground level (GND) to an altitude of 1000 feet above mean sea level (MSL).

Temporal effectiveness: The restriction will come into force on the following days and times:

  • 12 September 2024: 05:00 to 21:30 UTC
  • 18 September 2024: 05:00 to 21:30 UTC

Type of restrictions

During the above-mentioned periods, all air traffic is prohibited in the defined area, with the exception of aircraft actively participating in the military exercise. This also applies to the operation of model aircraft and unmanned aerial systems (drones).

Exceptions: The following are exempt from the flight restriction:

  • State aircraft
  • Police flights
  • Rescue and disaster control flights
  • Ambulance flights
  • Flights under instrument flight rules (IFR) that have received prior authorisation from the competent air traffic control unit.

Flights requiring an exemption authorisation can submit requests to the responsible air traffic control centre via radiotelephone.

Legal consequences of violations

Violations of the established flight restrictions will be prosecuted in accordance with Section 62 of the Air Traffic Act. It is strongly recommended that all aircraft operators and pilots inform themselves about these restrictions and take appropriate precautions to avoid legal consequences.
