On 13 February 2024, the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport announced that temporary flight restrictions would be imposed for a specific area in the Bremen flight information region as part of a research project. This announcement is based on Section 17 (1) sentence 2 of the Air Traffic Regulations of 29 October 2015, last amended by Article 2 of the Act of 14 June 2021.
The affected area is referred to as "ED-R Milde" and has the following boundaries:
- Lateral boundary: A circle with a radius of 1 NM (nautical miles) around the point 52°40'28″N, 011°27'10″E.
- Vertical limitFrom the ground (Ground Level, GND) up to an altitude of 33,000 feet (Flight Level 330, FL 330).
- Temporal effectivenessThe flight restrictions apply from 1 April 2024, 05:30 UTC, until 15 September 2024, 22:00 UTC.
Within this area, all flights, including the operation of model aircraft and unmanned aerial systems, are prohibited, with the exception of aircraft directly involved in the research project. State aircraft, police flights, rescue and disaster control missions, ambulance flights and flights that have received prior authorisation from the relevant air traffic control centre are also exempt from the restrictions. Requests for through flights can be made by radiotelephony, whereby through flight authorisations in accordance with §17 LuftVO are not issued.
Violations of these flight restrictions will be prosecuted in accordance with § 62 of the Air Traffic Act.
An appeal against the imposition of these flight restrictions may be lodged with the Berlin Administrative Court within one month of notification.
The purpose of this measure is to ensure a safe environment for the research project by eliminating potential interference from air traffic.
