Around 1000 Diamond aircraft, equipped with the Austro-Engines E4 engine (AE300), need to be inspected as soon as possible due to a problem with internal bolts.
The Diamond DA-42, which is used by airlines such as Lufthansa, KLM and Emirates for pilot training, is particularly affected. The DA-40 and DA-62 models are also popular for training purposes as well as with commercial and private users.
After problems with the screws led to engine damage and failures, the manufacturer and the European aviation authority Easa ordered the defective screws to be replaced. Depending on the serial number of the engine, owners have different deadlines for the repair, whereby in urgent cases a ferry flight to the maintenance location is permitted, provided there are no passengers on board and the distance does not exceed three flying hours. Alternatively, the propeller can be replaced during the next scheduled engine maintenance.
