Perfect framework conditions and a tried-and-tested trade fair concept
This year's AERO benefited from a rare but effective external factor: continuous sunshine during all days of the trade fair. This element is familiar from similar events in the USA, where a successful trade fair concept has been established for years under the motto „Sun and Fun“. In Friedrichshafen, it became clear that this principle also works excellently in Europe – complemented by a typical regional character that gives the event a special atmosphere.
Combined with the attractive presentation of aircraft of all categories – from ultralight aircraft to modern passenger aircraft and business jets – an environment was created that appealed equally to trade visitors and enthusiasts. Personal exchange within the international aviation community also contributed to the special dynamics of the event.
Record participation from exhibitors and visitors
This year's AERO reached new heights: 860 exhibitors from 50 nations and around 37,000 visitors from 88 countries underscore the growing international importance of the trade fair. This achieved a significant increase compared to previous years with approximately 32,000 visitors.
This development is not only an expression of high demand but also an indicator of the growing relevance of general aviation in a global context. In particular, the strong international participation shows that Friedrichshafen is firmly established as a meeting point for the industry.
Business Aviation as a Growth Driver
A key factor for the growth was the significantly stronger presence of business aviation. As the established trade fair EBACE did not take place in Geneva this year, a considerable portion of this segment shifted to Friedrichshafen. Numerous business jets and their respective suppliers characterised the scene on the exhibition grounds.
This shift not only led to an expansion of the exhibition portfolio but also to a stronger integration between classic General Aviation and Business Aviation. For many visitors, this resulted in a significantly broader spectrum of impressions and contacts.
Innovation and sustainability in focus
In terms of content, the trade fair focused clearly on future topics. Developments in the field of sustainable aviation were particularly prominent, including alternative propulsion concepts, more efficient aircraft designs, and new fuel solutions. The use of drones and their integration into existing air traffic structures were also discussed intensively.
These topics reflect the current challenges and opportunities in the industry. The AERO served not only as an exhibition platform but also as a venue for technical exchange and strategic discussions.
Fostering talent as a central element
The „AERO Career Days“ once again made an important contribution to attracting new skilled professionals. The event offered young people the opportunity to find out about career paths in aviation and to speak directly with companies, organisations and industry representatives.
Remarkable was the strong response to modern communication formats, for example through well-known aviation content creators, who particularly appealed to younger visitors. This shows that the industry is increasingly opening up to new approaches for engagement and talent acquisition.
Intensive dialogue with authorities and institutions
A key added value of the trade fair was the direct exchange between interest groups, industry, and authorities. Topics such as the further development of aviation medical requirements, regulatory aspects for smaller operators, and the future of IFR procedures at regional airfields were the focus of numerous discussions.
Supply security for aviation fuels was also intensely discussed in light of current geopolitical developments. These discussions underscore the role of AERO as a platform where not only products are presented, but also regulatory and strategic issues of the industry are negotiated.
Strong presence of associations and community
The exhibition also offered associations and organisations an important platform. Joint stands from international aviation organisations were very well attended and served as central points of contact for members and interested parties. The focus was on direct exchange, advice on regulatory issues and networking within the community.
The high visitor frequency and great interest in discussions show how important such platforms are for strengthening general aviation.
Professional organisation and smooth running
Another success factor was the organisation of the trade fair itself. The integration of different exhibitor groups – from manufacturers to service providers and associations – went smoothly. Despite the increased number of participants, the trade fair experience remained consistently positive for visitors and exhibitors alike.
The arrival by private plane, traditionally a sensitive point for events of this magnitude, also went largely without major bottlenecks this year. This further contributed to the high satisfaction of the participants.
Conclusion: A strong signal for the future of General Aviation
This year, AERO Friedrichshafen impressively demonstrated the dynamism inherent in general aviation. Record figures, new thematic impulses, and an increased international focus clearly show that the industry is on a stable growth path despite existing challenges.
As a central platform for innovation, exchange, and networking, the trade fair will continue to play a key role in the future – not only for Europe but for the global aviation community.
