AERO 2025 - The showcase for general aviation: innovative strength, tradition and future prospects

Last updated on 22 February 2025
Friedrichshafen, a city with a rich aviation tradition, will once again become the centre of general aviation from 9 to 12 April 2025. AERO 2025 brings together a multifaceted mix of classic air sports equipment, innovative microlights, gliders and state-of-the-art business jets - a unique format that focuses on both tradition and pioneering technologies.

An industry celebration characterised by optimism

Despite global crises, general aviation can look back on a successful year. The need for well-trained cockpit personnel is increasing worldwide, which is a challenge for flight schools and manufacturers of training aircraft alike. The demand for single and twin-engine touring aircraft also remains at a stable high level internationally. This positive development is reflected in the registration figures for the trade fair - initial figures indicate an increase of around ten per cent compared to the previous year. Project Manager Tobias Bretzel from fairnamic GmbH emphasises: "AERO has proven itself as an innovation platform and meeting place where both long-standing market participants and many new companies come together."

Technological innovations as drivers of the industry

AERO 2025 exemplifies the spirit of innovation in general aviation. Originally developed in this segment, technologies such as glass cockpits, aerodynamically optimised winglets and the increased use of composite materials have now also found their way into commercial aircraft. This trickle-down effect shows how innovations in small aviation serve as an incubator for developments that ultimately revolutionise the entire industry.

In addition, sustainable drive technologies are becoming increasingly important. Pioneers in the industry are presenting concepts for hydrogen fuel cell drives and fully electric aircraft that not only reduce emissions but also set new standards in terms of energy efficiency. Industry analyses, which can also be observed time and again at international aviation trade fairs, underline the fact that these technologies will make a significant contribution to the modernisation of global air traffic in the coming years.

Microlights and gliders: a sector on the upswing

The microlight aircraft industry has experienced a real boom since the weight limit was raised to 600 kilograms. Manufacturers are now developing aircraft that impress with lightweight, innovative materials and energy-efficient drive systems. These developments show how regulatory changes can open up new areas for innovation. The glider industry is not left out in the cold either: As part of the AERO Gliding Expo in Hall A1, established manufacturers will be presenting their latest models and services before returning to the traditional biennial rhythm.

A varied trade fair programme and international networking

AERO 2025 offers much more than just an exhibition. Over ten different joint stands - including national pavilions and regional clusters of aviation associations - underline the international exchange between manufacturers, authorities and organisations. More than 200 individual events as part of the AERO Conferences, including the AERO Hydrogen & Battery Summit and the General Aviation Academy training series, will intensify the professional dialogue at an international level. Such formats are crucial to jointly tackling current challenges such as the global shortage of skilled labour and the increasing importance of sustainable technologies.

Business aviation, drones and modern exhibition spaces

In addition to traditional general aviation, business aviation will have an expanded exhibition area. In Halls A2 and A3 as well as in the newly constructed, spectacular Business Aviation Dome in the Static Display, companies will find ideal conditions to present their products and services. An exclusive evening event on 9 April 2025 will also provide an informal platform for personal interaction between exhibitors and invited guests.

The unmanned aerial systems segment will also be updated: AERO Drones, which was previously located in Hall A2, will take place in Hall B4 for the first time, in the immediate vicinity of Helicopter Hall B5, which is important for drone operators. The three-day period - from Wednesday to Friday - remains unchanged and promises the latest insights into the world of drone technology.

Career opportunities and future prospects in aviation

The trade fair also emphasises the outstanding career opportunities in the aviation industry. From cockpit personnel and engineers to specialists and software developers, companies actively use AERO 2025 to attract the urgently needed young talent. International industry reports predict that the shortage of skilled labour in aviation will continue to increase in the coming years, which further emphasises the importance of such trade fair platforms.

Strong presence of aviation organisations

Another important aspect of AERO 2025 is the presence of organisations such as AOPA-Germany, AOPA Austria, AOPA Switzerland, IAOPA and the Vereinigung Deutscher Pilotinnen e.V.. Their information stands, for example in Hall A5, No. 201, offer interested parties comprehensive insights into membership and promote dialogue between enthusiasts and experts.

Conclusion

AERO 2025 presents itself as a comprehensive platform that reflects the entire spectrum of general aviation. From pioneering technological innovations and sustainable propulsion concepts to attractive career prospects - the trade fair shows that general aviation can not only look back on a rich tradition, but also serves as a driver of innovation for the future. With a varied trade fair programme and numerous networking opportunities, AERO 2025 offers all those involved the ideal conditions to meet the current challenges facing the industry and work together towards a sustainable future.

The fair is open from Wednesday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:00 and on Saturday from 09:00 to 16:00. Further information and the complete programme can be found at www.aero-expo.de.
