{"id":6740,"date":"2025-03-10T19:56:50","date_gmt":"2025-03-10T18:56:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pilot-hub.com\/?p=6740"},"modified":"2025-03-28T13:15:24","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T12:15:24","slug":"new-airspace-design-around-zuerich-airport-lszh-from-march-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pilot-hub.com\/en\/neues-luftraumdesign-rund-um-den-flughafen-zuerich-lszh-ab-maerz-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"New airspace design around Zurich Airport (LSZH) from March 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Background of the project<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The so-called <strong>\"Zurich Redesign\"<\/strong> was developed in close co-operation with the <strong>Swiss air navigation service provider Skyguide, the Swiss Air Force, the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA)<\/strong> and other stakeholders. The aim of the project is to achieve an improved level of safety and enable more efficient utilisation of airspace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An important component of the project is the application of the <strong>Collision Risk Modelling (CRM)<\/strong>which aims to reduce the collision risk to a level of <strong>\"one incident per one billion aircraft movements (1\u00d710-\u2079)\"<\/strong> to reduce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new structure takes into account:<br>\u2714 The <strong>safe and efficient movements<\/strong> of commercial aircraft to and from Zurich.<br>\u2714 The requirements of the <strong>Swiss Air Force<\/strong> at the D\u00fcbendorf military airfield.<br>\u2714 The interests of the <strong>General aviation and gliding<\/strong> through adapted restricted zones (LSR).<br>\u2714 A clear demarcation of the <strong>TMA areas and airspace classes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The most important changes at a glance<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. adjustments to the Zurich CTR (Control Zone)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The control zone around Zurich Airport (CTR) will be reduced in certain areas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>In the north-east<\/strong> a large part of the CTR will be removed to create more space for aircraft - especially for the Winterthur area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>In the south-west<\/strong> there is also a reduction in the CTR area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. revision of the Zurich TMA structure<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Terminal Manoeuvring Areas (TMA) around Zurich are being reorganised, with some airspaces being adapted or renamed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>New Zurich TMA 1-7<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Zurich TMA 1<\/strong>: This zone lies directly below the final approach to <strong>Runway 14<\/strong> and has recorded many airspace violations in the past. Special navigation discipline is recommended here.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Zurich TMA 2B<\/strong>: It was designed so that the <strong>Existing departure route E from Birrfeld<\/strong> remains unchanged. Pilots should note that the distance to TMA 2B is only about 300 metres.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Zurich TMA 3B<\/strong>: This airspace requires increased attention, as there are many <strong>approaching commercial aircraft from the north and east<\/strong> on <strong>5000 ft AMSL<\/strong> sink.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Zurich TMA 4A to 4D<\/strong>: In these areas <strong>Minor adjustments<\/strong> made, in particular <strong>south of Amlikon, north of Aarau and near Birrfeld and Buttwil<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Zurich TMA 5A &amp; 5B<\/strong>: Small <strong>Boundary changes south of Amlikon and in the Aarau region<\/strong> must be observed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Zurich TMA 6A to 6C<\/strong>: Slight shifts were observed south of the <strong>Midland-Jura\/Alps line<\/strong> especially in the vicinity of <strong>Lucerne-Berom\u00fcnster<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Zurich TMA 7<\/strong>The <strong>south-west corner of the TMZ north-east<\/strong> becomes easy <strong>reduced over German territory<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Special TMA S1-S3 for approaches to RWY 34 and RWY 28<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These special airspaces are <strong>Only activated when required<\/strong>especially during the <strong>DVO times (German Implementing Regulation)<\/strong> or in bad weather. Activation takes place with a <strong>Lead time of 15 minutes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DVO times for the TMA S1-S3:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Working days:<\/strong> 21:00 LT - 07:00 LT<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Weekends:<\/strong> 20:00 LT - 09:00 LT<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Public holidays (Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg):<\/strong> 20:00 LT - 09:00 LT<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When using RWY 34, all three TMAs are activated, while for approaches to RWY 28 only <strong>TMA S2 and S3<\/strong> be activated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3rd adjustments in D\u00fcbendorf and Speck-Fehraltorf<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to civil airspace, the <strong>D\u00fcbendorf CTR and TMA 1 and 2<\/strong> updated. The <strong>existing procedures between D\u00fcbendorf ATC and the Speck-Fehraltorf airfield<\/strong> remain unchanged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, a <strong>New restricted zone (LSR) around Speck-Fehraltorf<\/strong> set up in order to <strong>Local regulatory requirements<\/strong> to fulfil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. changes along the Central Plateau-Jura\/Alps line<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Due to the new TMA structure, the so-called <strong>\"Alpine Line\"<\/strong> in the areas of <strong>Uznach, Wattwil, B\u00fctschwil, Degersheim and Gossau<\/strong> slightly adjusted. This leads to <strong>minor changes in the boundary between airspace class C and E<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. modifications to corridor A9.1<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Airspace along the A9.1 corridor<\/strong> was realised in the regions <strong>Hombrechtikon and west of Hausen am Albis<\/strong> changed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>lower limit of this corridor is now FL90<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Important information for pilots<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2714 <strong>The obligation to register for crossing a Zurich TMA remains in place<\/strong>Pilots must be at least <strong>10 minutes before entry<\/strong> with <strong>Zurich Information on 124.700 MHz<\/strong> report.<br>\u2714 <strong>Flights must perform their navigation and altitude control precisely<\/strong>especially in the busier TMAs, in order to avoid airspace infringements.<br>\u2714 <strong>The new airspaces are already available online:<\/strong> The complete map can be viewed at <a href=\"https:\/\/s.geo.admin.ch\/qudxf0gkvvbr\"><strong>this link<\/strong><\/a> can be viewed here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Conclusion<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new airspace design around Zurich represents one of the biggest changes in recent years. The changes affect both the <strong>controlled airways for scheduled services<\/strong> as well as the <strong>General aviation and gliding<\/strong>.
