{"id":6649,"date":"2025-02-22T15:44:45","date_gmt":"2025-02-22T14:44:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pilot-hub.com\/?p=6649"},"modified":"2025-02-22T15:44:46","modified_gmt":"2025-02-22T14:44:46","slug":"nfl-2025-1-3382-temporary-flight-restriction-over-peenemuende-airspace-closure-for-research-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pilot-hub.com\/en\/nfl-2025-1-3382-temporaere-flugbeschraenkung-ueber-peenemuende-luftraumsperrung-fuer-forschungsprojekt\/","title":{"rendered":"NFL 2025-1-3382 - Temporary flight restriction over Peenem\u00fcnde: Airspace closure for research project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Details of the flight restriction<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Spatial limitation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The restricted area extends over the following coordinates:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>54\u00b010'15 \"N 013\u00b041'37 \"E<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>54\u00b020'26 \"N 013\u00b047'26 \"E<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>54\u00b020'08 \"N 013\u00b053'04 \"E<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>54\u00b007'17 \"N 013\u00b055'30 \"E<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>54\u00b006'08 \"N 013\u00b052'15 \"E<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>54\u00b008'35 \"N 013\u00b043'30 \"E<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>54\u00b010'15 \"N 013\u00b041'37 \"E<\/strong> (Closure of the area)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The area thus comprises a <strong>Regional zone over the Baltic Sea near Peenem\u00fcnde<\/strong>a location with a long history in the field of aerospace research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Vertical limit<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The flight restriction applies <strong>from the ground (GND) up to an altitude of 5,000 feet MSL<\/strong> (approx. 1,524 metres above mean sea level).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Period of utilisation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The flight restriction is divided into three phases:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>24 February 2025 - 29 March 2025:<\/strong> daily from <strong>07:00 to 17:00 UTC<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>30 March 2025 - 25 October 2025:<\/strong> daily from <strong>06:00 to 18:00 UTC<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>26 October 2025 - 31 December 2025:<\/strong> daily from <strong>07:00 to 17:00 UTC<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Actual activation<\/strong> of the airspace restriction is <strong>NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen)<\/strong> to inform pilots about current utilisation times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who is authorised to use the airspace over Peenem\u00fcnde?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within the defined airspace <strong>all flight movements prohibited in principle<\/strong>with the exception of aircraft directly involved in the research project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following aircraft are <strong>after prior authorisation<\/strong> exempted from the restrictions by the competent air traffic control centre:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>State aircraft<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Mission flights of the armed forces<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Police flights<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rescue and disaster control flights<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Ambulance flights<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For all other aircraft, including <strong>private and commercial flights and drones<\/strong>there is an absolute ban on flying. <strong>Transit authorisations in accordance with \u00a717 LuftVO are not issued.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Background to the research project<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although no precise details of the research project were given in the official announcement, Peenem\u00fcnde is a site steeped in history, which has been used in the past for <strong>Military and civil aerospace research<\/strong> was used. Possible tests could relate to <strong>aerodynamic investigations, new aviation systems or unmanned flight technologies<\/strong> refer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similar flight restrictions have been imposed in the past for <strong>Drone tests, rocket launches and military trials<\/strong> imposed. The measure comes into force on 24 February 2025 and is valid until 31 December 2025. The restricted airspace serves as a protective measure for an ongoing research project that is being conducted during this period.
