According to the new directive Simultaneous take-off and landing procedures at both aerodromes, i.e. at EDTX and EDTYis not permitted. Simultaneous operation on the paved runway and the Grass track in EDTY is prohibited in order to prevent conflicts in flight operations. The grass runway may also not be used as a parking area.

In addition, the regulation refers to the joint radio communication of the two aerodromes. Air traffic for both aerodromes is handled via the joint flight control coordinated in EDTY.

2. VFR powered flight operations

Special consideration must be given to gliding operations. It is therefore stipulated that during gliding operations the area south of the two aerodromes must be avoided. This measure is intended to ensure the safety of gliding operations and avoid collisions.

3. glider operations (EDTY and EDTX)

For the Gliding operations the regulations of the Gliding operating regulations (SBO) of the German Aero Clubs as amended from time to time. However, there are also special regulations for operation: When the IFR flight operations glider operations on the Grass track 10/28 are not carried out in order to prevent interference with IFR traffic.

Particularly important is the Coordination of aircraft towing operations in EDTX. Here, the glider pilot must liaise with the EDTY/EDTX flight director via the company radio to ensure that the towing procedure runs smoothly.

4. skydiving operations (EDTX)

For the Skydiving operations New rules have also been defined for EDTX. Before the jump operation begins, a Jump ladder to the joint EDTY/EDTX flight control centre. Drop-off procedures may only be carried out if No traffic in the circuit area is located. This serves to avoid accidents or dangerous approaches between aeroplanes and parachutists.

5. special regulations for the special landing site Schwäbisch Hall-Weckrieden (EDTX)

For the special landing site Schwäbisch Hall-Weckrieden (EDTX), additional provisions apply to ensure coordination with the EDTY airfield. Each Aircraft pilot must be familiarised with the joint flight control and remain contactable by radio during all take-off and landing procedures.

In addition, approaching aircraft flying to EDTX should be able to use the Round course from EDTY and use the Change of course to EDTX only on final approach. Deviating approaches and departures are only possible after consultation with "Schwäbisch Hall Information".

6 Other regulations and notes

In addition to these specific regulations, the provisions already set out in the Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) published regulations that are binding for all pilots and aerodromes in Germany.

7 Entry into force

The new regulations for aerodrome traffic at the two Schwäbisch Hall aerodromes come into effect on the day of publicationso on 28 August 2024, came into force. This means that all operators and pilots are obliged to comply with these guidelines with immediate effect.

Conclusion

The new joint regulation of airfield traffic for the two airfields Schwäbisch Hall Hessental (EDTY) and Schwäbisch Hall-Weckrieden (EDTX) is an important step towards making flight operations safer and more efficient. In particular, the focus is on coordination between the two airfields and the special regulations for gliding and parachuting operations. Pilots and operators are now required to observe and implement these new regulations in order to ensure smooth and safe air traffic.

Source references:
NFL (the link requires a subscription to Eisenschmidt)

New guidelines for airfield traffic at Schwäbisch Hall Hessental (EDTY) and Schwäbisch Hall-Weckrieden (EDTX) airfields were announced on 28 August 2024 with the publication of Nachrichten für Luftfahrer (NfL) 2024-1-3178.
