The area is located in the Bremen flight information area.

Vertical limit

The flight restriction generally extends from the ground to 5,000 feet MSL. During the night hours between 22:30 and 04:30 UTC (in summertime between 21:30 and 03:30 UTC), the upper limit is raised to flight level 75.

Temporal validity

The ED-R Lindenberg is valid from 22 January 2026 to 31 December 2027. There are no plans to restrict activity during the day; the area is generally effective permanently.

Type of restrictions

All flights are prohibited within the ED-R. This includes manned aircraft as well as model aircraft and unmanned aerial systems. The only exceptions are aircraft that are directly involved in the research project.

Exceptions and authorisations

After prior authorisation by the responsible air traffic control authority, state aircraft, emergency flights of the armed forces, police flights, rescue and disaster control missions and ambulance flights are permitted. Transit requests can be made via radiotelephony. Transit authorisations in accordance with § 17 LuftVO are not issued.

Notes for the practice

Violations of the flight restrictions will be prosecuted. Due to the multi-year duration and the time-dependent increased upper limit, the ED-R Lindenberg must be permanently taken into account in route and altitude planning, especially for VFR and IFR flights at low and medium altitudes.

Source references:
NFL (the link requires a subscription to Eisenschmidt)

From January 2026, a further area with flight restrictions will be established in the Bremen flight information region.
