Background and legal basis
The flight restriction is based on § Section 17 (1) sentence 2 of the Air Traffic Regulations (LuftVO). The aim is to prevent all flight movements in the affected area that are not directly related to the research project. Such closures are particularly important in the scientific testing of new systems - for example in the area of Atmospheric research, unmanned aerial systems or sensor technology - are not unusual and serve to protect the aircraft involved and public safety.

Designation of the area: ED-R Lindenberg (Restricted Area)
Lateral limitation:
- Centre: 52°12′33″ N, 14°07′13″ E (near Lindenberg, Brandenburg)
- Radius: 1.3 nautical miles (approx. 2.4 km)
Vertical expansion:
- During the day: from the ground (GND) to 5,500 feet above sea level (AMSL)
- At night (21:30 - 03:30 UTC): Expansion to FL075
Temporal effectiveness:
- Start: 03 April 2025, 00:00 UTC
- End: 01 October 2025, 23:59 UTC
What is allowed, what is forbidden?
General flight ban:
In this area all flights - manned or unmanned - are prohibitedunless they are part of the research project.
Exceptions with authorisation: The following flights may take place with the prior authorisation of the responsible air traffic control unit:
- State aircraft
- Mission flights of the armed forces
- Police flights
- Flights in rescue and disaster control operations
- Ambulance flights
No transit authorisations by the BAF:
The Federal Supervisory Authority for Air Navigation Services (BAF) becomes No transit authorisations according to § 17 paragraph 2 sentence 1 LuftVO.
Enquiries in individual cases:
In exceptional cases, the Radiotelephony a transit permit must be requested from the relevant air traffic control centre.
